J-Concepts
JConcepts unveiled a new body during the 2021 ROAR Fuel Nationals for the 1/8th truck division. The F2 body was constructed to perform at the highest level using the latest trend of reducing surface area above the shock tower line, reducing the overall weight while maintaining a tight silhouette. No stranger to Truggy bodies, the JConcepts team has developed a successful line of bodies with the Punisher and Finnisher designs, and each has excelled and peaked during ROAR championship events. For the 2021 event, the team focused on a behind tower concept body to fit 5 chassis configurations including the Mugen, Team Associated, TLR, HB, and Tekno.
What stands out on the JConcepts body is the raised nose that planes off the front shock tower. This design and styling were chosen over the buggy style mount to provide a better look, a cleaner and more durable fit and a better overall flow aerodynamically. To mount the F2 body, a carbon fiber adaptor is needed along with the Team Associated #81622 body mounts or Mugen #MUGE2148 (for MBX8T) to place the front of the body in correct position. Each truck has a specific adaptor produced in carbon fiber which bolts directly to the stock tower and once adding the (not included) body mount, provides a custom fit and beautiful finish.
The F2 name arrived after the team decided on using an existing style from the 1/10th stadium truck body already in the JConcepts line-up. The narrow shape, double upper railed cab with inner louvers are undeniable traits carried over to the new truggy performance body. The V-shape off the back of the cab is JConcepts fit, function, and styling from the get-go with a blend to recessed bed area for a low-slung base shape. A strategically placed spoiler outlet in the bed transitions to the mounting area.
The nose cone was prototyped to attach on multiple trucks and ultimately fixed in a protective and performance position. Complete the nose piece with included decal to give the truggy ROAR required headlight and grille placement. The side-pods inspired by the Silencer and Finnisher shells cover a variety of electrical and pipe layouts while showing-off the huge chamfer made popular by the team at JConcepts. The symmetrical pods finish at the body shell’s main structure while the dual and recessed side-windows maintain its unique and low-profile posture and ride-height.
The JConcepts body includes overspray film on top of the body, window mask for quick paint and prep and detailed JConcepts decal sheet. The product is always backed by JConcepts customer service, support, and developed by professionals with style and authenticity.
JConcepts at the races –
The JConcepts team took on the ROAR Fuel Nationals and Ryan Maifield earned the TQ and victory in a stacked field at the highly competitive event held at LCRC Raceway in Oakland Mills, Pennsylvania. As the team only had 4 prototype shells available, the popularity and word of mouth grew large during the event creating a stir. Imposter body shells popped up after this event, however, JConcepts kept it on the track and in the results column. For the ROAR 1/8th E-Nationals held at SS Hobbies & Raceway in Tampa, Florida, it was once again, Ryan Maifield rising to the challenge with the F2 body, this time on the E-truck. The team racked up another TQ and overall 1st place making it two national titles in less than a months’ time.
Assembly notes –
To begin, install or mock-up the (not included) AE body mount #81622 or Mugen #MUGE2148 (for MBX8T) into the center position on the carbon fiber adaptor by using included hardware. Tighten the screw while allowing the mount to “notch” in to place to give the mount a vertical and stationary position. In some cases, depending on vehicle, the body mount may need to be completely installed to the adaptor first, due to hidden or closed-off screw locations. Once the mount is positioned, attach the carbon fiber adaptor to the shock tower using 3mm hardware and secured in to place with 3mm lock nuts.
Once the carbon fiber adaptor of choice is attached to the shock tower, review the instructions on body trimlines to accommodate the vehicle of choice. It is important to follow along to position body mount holes, perimeter cutlines and possible engine head cut-out and fuel tank openings to the appropriate vehicle. Once the carbon adaptor is in position and body is trimmed for the vehicle, the painting and detailing process can be completed in traditional fashion.

The Punisher body by JConcepts for the TLR 8ight-X Elite is unique. As with all new and popular vehicles on the market, JConcepts wanted to deliver the best looking and performing body shell on the market. Throw everything you know out the window, the Punisher separates itself from the rest of the bodies on the market with its distinctive styling. In the hands of Dakotah Phend, the P1 body shell debuted at the 2020 Southern Indoor Championships.
In the development stage, the P1 was difficult, trying to slick out a design more powerful than the last. However, after fitment, discussion with newly acquired drivers, the form started to take shape. Incredibly low side-pod designs with an ultra-heavy chamfer are traditional looks for JConcepts, however, the power scoops along the cab add some overall muscle to the design, and that gets any racer wired.
The P1 has a broad cab and the placement moves it forward just behind the body mount and front shock tower. The new body was designed to turn and cut through the rough stuff with balance and precision. A centered roof “shark fin” is light and adds, tracking stability and rigidity to the tallest and most pressure sensitive area on the vehicle. Behind the cab, things begin to get interesting with an engine bay roof-top blended into rear kick-up winglets. The rear winglets strike where it gets hot, just behind the engine heat-sink and gives that last bit of downforce area prior to the rear shock tower.

JConcepts Mambos SCT Street Eliminator Drag Racing Rear Tires are a wide-body tire option developed specifically for RC Drag Racing. At the heart of this design is the 2.2 x 3.0” configuration but stretched out to create a larger contact patch. Forward traction is the name of the game and the goal of the larger area, in theory, gives a racer a slight advantage in the “hook and go” department.
One of the tricky aspects to drag racing rear tires is tire expansion and controlling this during acceleration. The JConcepts design team thickened the entire carcass, added unique inner sidewall ribbing on the inside and outside and then an industry first waffle inner weight reduction pattern. The waffle pattern accomplishes 2 things, weight reduction and provides some resistance to expansion to split some difference between a heavily restricted belted tire and a tire with no inner structure.
Dialing in the tire is a racers job but starting with a great base setup is key and the Mambos have all the elements of a successful design. Another exciting feature designed into the sidewall is the ability to add a beadlock style wheel such as the Starfish wide beadlock wheel (JCO3415B). The rear tire has an inspired look with a wide-body footprint so the driver can feel the straight-line forward stability with very light rolling resistance. The 2.2 x 3.0" size makes it traditional in feel but because of its width, fits JConcepts Mambos sized wheels (JCO3408B, JCO3409B and JCO3415B).
The rear tire is designed as a low-profile shape to fit inside close quarters of a vehicle and body shell while maintaining the crisp response of a race tire. Mambos have raised lettering which can be detailed for shows or displays or simply left without for a sleepy yet devastating look. A feature included on the sidewall is a double arrow which can be colored to indicate direction. The JConcepts tires include the Mambos carcass forming closed-cell, black in color Dirt-Tech inserts known for their durability, performance, and consistency.

The P2 body by JConcepts for the TLR 22 5.0 Elite vehicle is the meanest, nastiest thing out for 1/10th buggy racing. Throw everything you know out the window, the Punisher 2 separates itself from the rest of the bodies on the market with its distinctive styling. The S2 and F2 body designs have created their own path of success on dirt, carpet, and Astroturf with class leading success, now, the P2, will carve its own.
The P2 is once again, all about performance with riveting details including raised nose / hood, taller cab and rear-end force features. The side-pods are once again JC chamfered to provide that legendary look and the secondary window screams JConcepts styling. The cab drops off quickly and runs deep toward the rear giving plenty of drift to the newly added winglets. The JConcepts Swaggers Carpet 2.2" Truck Tire features ribs with a multitude of heights and angles for cornering speed, consistency and straight-line tracking ability.
The Swagger has shown to produce ultra fast lap times while also being easier to drive than other options on the market.
The Swaggers work best on Carpet and Astroturf tracks where the racing line requires an aggressive style front tire.
The ultra low-profile carcass keeps a truck very predictable and consistent in high-grip conditions while pointing the vehicle in the correct direction. JConcepts has added side-wall ribs in a circular pattern to the exterior of the tire to support high-grip racing.

When David Ronnefalk joined the JConcepts Racing team, he had a recommendation. “Let’s develop a tire for the Euro drivers where the tracks are more dry, rutted and dusty.” The team set off on a mission by evaluating JC’s past and present tread patterns to arrive at a new build.
Tires such as the Hybrid, Chasers and Stackers, already in the line-up, have all served well and have won major events; however, Kosmos has it all.
Starting with a clean shape and carcass, the design team took to a rectangular based pin which has the forward bite muscle to boost a 1/8th buggy. The staggered rows create a unique zig/zag affect at certain views giving it a 3D mind puzzle affect. In fact, the design is 4 rows deep of off-set and staggered sections when compared to some traditional tires which rely on 2.
JConcepts has connected several sections of pins with a V-feature to strengthen the base to make Super Soft compounds manageable even in high-speed conditions. The outer rows of pins have been clipped and held back for maximum cornering consistency on bumpy and chunky conditions. The inside of the carcass boasts the standard 3 radial ribs that help minimize tire expansion under hard acceleration and cushions hard impacts.

Main event racing requires performance, consistency and longevity by selecting the correct tire. The Stalkers tire by JConcepts was developed for surfaces which mature over time, get rough, dry and with extreme scaling to the surface. The Reflex tire, designed by Jason Ruona, in early 2014 has been a success and the Stalker is a chip off the old block.
The design team checked over the carcass profile, height and width to assure the best balance of weight and drivability. The Stalkers began with an enlarged square pin which has slight angle on each side. The angle creates some separation at the top which gives some bite in wet conditions providing some versatility to the design.
As the pins meet the base of the tire, the spacing tightens considerably giving a stable footing for the Stalkers. Using softer compounds such as blue and green, the tire has stability and flexibility for fast qualifying.
The stacked row configuration and simple connected pins offer massive forward acceleration. The aligned rows allow some surface drift making the tires forgiving in sand and bumpy track sections. The outside pin has been clipped to help drive-ability and ease the initial turn-in drivers often have concern for. JConcepts Pin Downs Carpet 2.2" Truck Tires feature a pin spiked tread, which is directional for added performance and stability.
The directional nature of the pins were positioned to allow broken-in type pins to grip the surface in one direction, while the pins are more upright when oriented in the opposite direction. The bottoms of the pins have heavy radiuses which allow the pins to wear more consistently and not tear or rip off the carcass prematurely.
The tire carcass itself has been refined to reduce weight while maintaining strong sidewall support. The pink compound marked with 2 pink dots is a medium soft material with good wear characteristics. The motor | rotor box includes plenty of space for assembled motors, individually spaced rotors and a pocket for miscellaneous motor tuning items.
The motor/rotor box has a small footprint which makes it ideal for short trips with minimal amounts of space. Inside the box is roomy enough for three assembled motors and cushioned with high-impact foam that allow the items to lay in a bed like a cradle during rest periods. At the other end, five areas can house rotors and the pocket at the end gives all-important extra storage. The JConcepts TLR 8ight/8ight E 4.0 Front Scoop serves as a front nose-cone on the vehicle but with a front wing design that has shown to produce enhanced steering characteristics.
The front scoop can be painted, left clear or frosted for the desired look, fit and finish.
